Bonnaroo. 80,000 people are camping out on a 700 acre site in Manchester, Tenn., this weekend for the epic music festival Bonnaroo, which features 150 acts on 13 stages. The likes of Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Phish and the Beach Boys will all be there. Best overnight guitar campfire sing-song ever.
Home ATM. NBA player DeShawn Stevenson installed an ATM machine in his Dallas home to allow his buddies to withdraw money before they go out partying. And each ATM withdrawal at his house will cost you: $4.50 ATM fee per transaction. I’m taking that idea to the bank.
Rob Lowe Takes Winnipeg. There have been spottings of him in town all week, where he’s filming The Casey Anthony Story for Lifetime TV — playing the part of prosecutor Jeff Ashton. One woman tweeted the Lowe down, “Guess who just met Rob Lowe? Yeah, that’s right. Moi. 80s dream realized. And yes, we touched. Le sigh. #Winnipeg”.
B.C. Limo Driver. A limo driver in Vernon, B.C.. called police Saturday night because of drunken passengers in his vehicle. Just one problem: When the police showed up, the driver himself had been drinking. And he failed a roadside breath test. He’s now facing an impaired driving charge.
Graceland. Commemorative CD/DVD editions of Paul Simon’s landmark Graceland album came out this week, marking the album’s 25th anniversary. They include the new Graceland documentary Under African Skies, chronicling its recording and impact on world music and pop culture. Must watch.
Canadian Psycho. Suspected fugitive/cannibal Luka Rocco Magnotta was arrested at an Internet café in Berlin this week. Which actually really shouldn’t surprise anyone, as the ultimate narcissist was there checking out reports on the manhunt for himself.
Russell Brand. At the MTV Movie Awards, Brand wasted no time in his opening monologue addressing his divorce from Katy Perry. “The last time I did an MTV awards show, I did end up marrying someone that was there. So tonight I’m going to keep my eyes peeled for my next wife!” No word if he kissed a girl that night.
Celine Dion. Celine Dion’s heart goes out to Kate Winslet, who has said the Titanic theme song, My Heart Will Go On, makes her sick. Dion said on the Today show this week: “If I just count how many times I’ve sung it, maybe it’ll get me sick. If she feels tired just hearing it, and, like, throwing up, I’m glad she was not the one singing it.” You should hear me belt it out.
Twitter’s New Birdie. The world’s famous little blue bird doesn’t need any accessories anymore, as Twitter announced this week “there’s no longer a need for text, bubbled typefaces, or a lowercase ‘t’ to represent Twitter” anymore. So now it’s just the birdie. In other news, the blue jay in my backyard still has a bird bath.
Miley Cyrus. It was just yesterday that my girls were watching her as Hannah Montana, and now the 19-year-old has gone and gotten engaged. Yes, she announced her engagement to boyfriend actor Liam Hemsworth. No word if dad Billy Ray will sing Achy, Breaky Heart at her wedding.
Melissa Stetten. The model hilariously live tweeted an unknown actor Brian Pressly — a devout Christian married with a child — hitting on her in a plane. Sample tweet: “Brian has a wedding ring. I ask him how his wife is, he says he just wears the ring because he likes it. Right, Brian.” Horrible acting job Brian.
Brock University. Graduating students there were treated to some Hollywood celebrity when Ryan Gosling showed up with girlfriend Eva Mendes on campus to watch his mom graduate on Wednesday. Notebook ending to their schooling.
