Since Michael Schafer is one of my favourite chefs, I decided to try his new restaurant Rudy’s Eat and Drink.
The website describes the eatery as paying homage to the food of the late 1950s. This sounded like a fun place to eat so I invited a friend to join me.
The mains were not bad, but not special either. My friend ordered the Full Monte Cristo ($15.95), which was piled high with ham, chicken and cheese.
I had the Fried Fish ($16.95) cooked in a dill batter with fries. I liked the dill in the batter because it gave a unique take on a classic but my fries were cold and old.
However, the desserts were exceptionally good. The Smores ($8.95) were decadent with homemade marshmallows and the Lemon Meringue Pie ($7.95) was possibly the best I have ever eaten in Winnipeg.
Overall, Rudy’s is a good restaurant but it’s a bit overpriced for average lunch fare.
