Last Wednesday, I ventured into River Heights in need of some window-shopping therapy and stumbled upon Saucers Café. This quaint little eatery was full of diners and had the look of a modern bistro but the feel of a neighbourhood hangout.

Being a beautiful day I decided to dine on the patio and soak up the sun.

After perusing the delicious menu, I finally decided on the Asparagus Melt with a side order of broccoli and cheese soup ($12) and a refreshing pear iced tea ($3).

The melt was an open-faced sandwich consisting of crispy ciabatta bread with a pesto mayonnaise, topped by tender asparagus, smoky ham and fresh sliced tomatoes, atop of which was a blanket of melted provolone.

It was good but a touch too salty for me and I didn’t get enough of a hit of pesto in the mayo. The soup was loaded with broccoli and the gooey goodness of cheese.

This eatery was quite enjoyable and I highly recommend the patio.
