Every year around this time, my taste buds begin to yearn for the seared splendor of barbecued meat.

Wanting to give into my cravings, I decided Korean barbecue at Hiroba would be the perfect fix.

On a  tabletop grill, my sister and I cooked the thin slices of marinated beef — known in Korean as bulgogi ($35 ) — with abounding glee.

The sweet garlicky meat complimented the firm woodiness of the enoki and eryngii mushrooms that were grilled along side of it.

Also served with the meal were several side dishes, one of which was the classic Korean favourite kimchi — a spicy fermented cabbage.

The meal was very good and according to my sister, who lived in Korea, authentic in both taste and presentation.

As with all barbecues, it is meant to be eaten by a group. So the next time a sunny day comes around and you feel like barbecuing, why not grab a few friends and make it Korean?
