I haven’t been to Curry Village since it moved from Brenton Street. I recall a friend dancing around the table in reaction to the restaurant’s hotly spiced beef vindaloo.
I’m here for lunch with a friend unfamiliar with Indian food, so we play it safe.
We share two lunch specials that include a steaming hot bowl of chicken-based soup with carrots and a nice hit of lime.
Our Tandoori Chicken ($9.95) is a perfectly grilled chicken leg that has been marinated in yogurt, lemon and spices.
It has nice smoky flavour. Served with Naan (Indian bread) and we don’t leave a crumb.
The Lamb Curry ($12.95) is a generous portion of lamb chunks cooked with green peppers and onions, and served on a bed of basmati rice.
The meat is tender, not as spicy as I would like, but a good introduction for my companion who declares she now likes Indian food.
