Despite being down in a big way in the first inning, the Winnipeg Goldeyes bats came out in full force on Monday, giving the Fish a huge 20-16 victory over the Sioux Falls Pheasants at Shaw Park.

The first inning wasn’t pretty for the Fish. With the bases loaded Cesar Nicolas hit a two run single to put the Pheasants up 2-0. Sioux Falls would add another run to go up by three and it got ugly from there when Ridge Carpenter smacked a three run homer over the right field wall to put the Fish down 6-0 before they could get out of the inning.

Winnipeg went into the sixth inning down 7-4 but the Fish offense took over in the inning scoring six runs to go up 10-7.

The Fish added five more runs in the seventh with two of those coming from a two-run home run by Josh Mazzola. Winnipeg would score another five in the eighth. Sioux Falls made it very interesting by scoring nine runs in the ninth inning to make the score 20-16.

It was the first time the Fish have ever scored 20 runs in a game at Shaw Park. The teams play the second of a three game set Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Shaw Park.
