Ryan Taplin/Metro Mooseheads captain Cameron Critchlow tangles with Oceanic forward Jonathan Lavoie.

The Halifax Mooseheads could be without captain Cameron Critchlow on Sunday unless the QMJHL overturns an automatic one-game suspension that accompanies the game misconduct penalty he received on Friday.

The 20-year-old forward was assessed the penalty after the referees deemed he attempted to remove the helmet of Rimouski Oceanic forward Jonathan Lavoie in a fight in the first period of Game 5 of the QMJHL semifinal.

Although the penalty comes with an automatic one-game suspension, the disciplinary prefect can overturn the referees ruling after a review.

The Mooseheads, who lost Game 5 by a score of 9-0 and trail the series 3-2, are expecting final word on the matter on Saturday. They host Game 6 on Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Metro Centre.

Critchlow has 12 goals and seven assists for 19 points and a plus-11 rating in 15 playoff games.
