Simple Plan will be performing at the Metro Centre on Sunday night.

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. It may have some dust on it but continues to ring true in a multitude of situations.

In 1993, a little Quebec band known as Reset toured Canada but unfortunately racked up more kilometres than ‘cred, so the boys abandoned ship.

“We tried once being in a band but it didn’t quite work out,” said Chuck Comeau, the drummer for Simple Plan. “Looking back we’ve been back together for 13 years now and it’s going great.”

With stacks of MuchMusic Awards, a Juno, and four studio albums, according to Comeau, Simple Plan humbly focuses on making music.

“We’re happy it’s still the same five band members which is rare,” said Comeau. “It’s a source of pride that we’re able to stick together for this long.”

Though critics consider Simple Plan’s catalogue the soundtrack for teen angst, Comeau believes it’s all a matter of perspective.

“I feel we write about our own lives,” said Comeau. “I think when we were younger life seemed more dramatic.”

With their latest album entitled Get Your Heart On!, the boys are clearly maturing before our very eyes.

Sensitive that their audience remains in the grips of high school drama, Comeau knows the troubles their songs highlight, the Simple Plan Foundation may be able to fix.

“Our songs touch a lot of young people going through difficult issues both at home and at school,” said Comeau. “At some point we felt it was cool to write music for them but what else can we do to help them.”

Since 2005 the foundation has raised over $750,000 dollars to help organizations that aid troubled youth.

“It’s something we are all really proud of that we hope to continue for a long time.”
