Nominations for the annual Emmy Awards, honouring the best in television, were announced Thursday, with cable TV dominating the field once again. Perennial awards favourite HBO dominated, picking up a staggering 81 nominations for series like Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones and Veep as well as movies and miniseries like Hemingway and Gellhorn, which earned 15 nominations alone. Meanwhile, cable series American Horror Story, from FX, and Mad Men, from AMC, tied for the most nominations for a single program, earning 17 each.

The Emmys will be awarded during a live broadcast in Los Angeles on Sept. 23, with Jimmy Kimmel hosting.
