A Winnipeg man is facing a fine of $4,000 after a snowmobile collision that left a pedestrian dead.
Shane Hayward, 23, was given the fine after pleading guilty to a careless operation charge under the provincial Off-Road Vehicles act. The maximum fine he faced was $5,000 after he slammed into a pedestrian on Jan. 13, 2011. Ken Stammers, 51, died in hospital two hours later.
The accident prompted a review and ultimately the banning of snowmobiles and ATVs within City limits on public property. That will go into effect later this year.
