It’s been a beary busy few weeks at the Assiniobine Park Zoo, and there’s also some beary cool news coming out of the zoo’s Polar Bear Conservation Centre. (Sorry, we’ll stop punning, we bear.)
The centre’s latest polar bear cub now has a name, and her name is Kaska, which is “derived from the Kaskatamagan Wildlife Management Area, which lies within the traditional territory of Shamattawa First Nation,” according to a press release from the Assiniboine Park Conservancy.
Kaska, who is 11 months old, is currently in quarantine and will join Hudson, Storm and Aurora in a few weeks.
Speaking of Aurora, she is being scheduled for dental surgery for Tuesday. Media will get the chance to see the surgery up close, and Metro Winnipeg will be there.
