Shots were fired at this intersection, near The Republic Night Club.

The Winnipeg Police Service’s Major Crimes Unit is investigating after the sounds of gunshots were reported in the Exchange District early Sunday morning.

Police responded to the call near the corner of Bannatyne Avenue and Princess Street at   approximately 2:15 a.m. on Sunday morning, where they located evidence confirming shots were fired.

“There is evidence that leads us to believe that shots were fired,” said WPS spokesperson Cst. Jeffrey Norman, adding police are very familiar with the area. “It’s not uncommon due to the fact that we have responded to that address on numerous occasions.”

While police remained tight-lipped about what address they frequent in the area, the Republic Nightclub sits at the corner of Bannatyne Avenue and Princess Street.

No arrests have been made and no injuries have been reported in the incident.
