Two teenaged girls have been arrested after an 80-year-old woman was pushed to the ground during a purse snatching in the North End Tuesday morning.
Police said the woman had been walking near the corner of Main Street and Cathedral Avenue around 9:20 a.m. when two female suspects came up behind and knocked her to the ground while pulling her purse from her arm.
“The female attempted to hang on to her purse, and I believe she was even dragged,” said Police spokesperson Const. Jason Michalyshen. “The incident certainly would have been very traumatic.”
The woman was injured in the fall.
Witnesses chased the two suspects as they fled causing one of the suspects to drop the woman’s purse.
Police caught up with and arrested the suspects five minutes later at a nearby residence in the 100 block of Machray Avenue.
Both have been charged with robbery, and one was released on a promise to appear.
