Distillers from Windsor, Ont. were in high spirits Thursday after winning the fourth annual Canadian Whisky Awards.

Corby’s Lot No. 40, distilled at Windsor’s historic Hiram Walker Distillery took home the top honours with a recipe inspired by 19th century whisky maker Joshua Booth.

“It’s the very essence of what rye whisky is all about,” said event organizer and judge Davin de Kergommeaux.

The event was held in conjunction with the Victoria Whisky Festival at the Grand Pacific Hotel.

Other winners included Alberta Premium Dark Horse, Forty Creek Heart of Gold, Masterson’s Straight Rye Whiskey, Wiser’s Red Letter, and Crown Royal Black.
