Officers arrested so-called “chip bandits” Tuesday morning, after a Saanich homeowner awoke to find her salty snacks had been stolen from her garage.
At around 3 a.m., a Foul Bay Rd. resident was awoken by her growling chihuahua. When she investigated further, she heard voices close by and suspected someone had broken in.
After tip-toeing into her living room, she grabbed her cell phone and called 9-1-1.
Officers arrived on scene shortly after 3:15, and a police dog tracked the suspected thieves.
Police discovered the woman’s garage door had been left open and asked her to take a look around for missing items.
It was all there — except for a bag of barbeque potato chips and a swath of fabric.
Shortly after the discovery, police arrested two women, 22 and 24 years old. Police say both suspects were highly intoxicated and they were held over night.
Charges of break and enter are being considered.
