Vancouver’s park board will decorate its community centres as well as libraries, schools and other public buildings this month with 12 different posters celebrating local women athletes.

Sport was chosen as a theme for the second year of the park board’s Remarkable Women poster series in recognition of International Women’s Day on March 8.

The women featured in the posters, whose ranks include Lori Fung, the first woman to win Olympic gold in rhythmic gymnastics, date from the 1920s to the present.

Others include the Vancouver Amazons, a women’s hockey team from the 1920s, and Poonam Sandhu, a current member of Canada’s national field hockey team.
