The iconic Sir Paul McCartney played before a sold out B.C. Place Sunday night. It was his first performance in Vancouver since The Beatles played a brief but legendary show at Empire Stadium almost half a century ago.

McCartney, now 70, opened his show Sunday night with Magical Mystery Tour before swooping into his Wings catalogue with Junior’s Farm.

The Vancouver show was one of five Canadian dates on McCartney’s On The Run tour, which moves east of the Rockies for a pair of shows in Edmonton on Thursday and Friday. The tour, which started in the summer of 2011, previously visited Montreal.

In the week leading up to Sir Paul’s visit, B.C. Place was set aglow with the colours of the Union Jack.

Edmonton, went even further, decking out city hall with Beatles memorabilia and even temporarily re-naming a city street Abby Road.
