Jagrup Brar is broke.

The Surrey-Fleetwood representative has been living off $610 in January after accepting the MLA Welfare Challenge, but that money ran dry last week.

It’s a situation Brar knows is a reality for thousands of individuals and families that live off welfare in B.C.

Nearing the end of his challenge, Brar said his experience has been “eye opening and life changing”.
“I now understand so much more (about poverty issues) this way than from reading (a) report,” he said.
