CeeJai Julian, a friend of a 30-year-old woman killed in an alleged hit and run over the weekend, said she hopes the driver gets punished for the death of a “beautiful human being.”
Julian was awakened by a loud bang at 4 a.m. on Saturday. When she looked below, she saw a woman lying on the ground at the corner of Hastings and Jackson streets. She ran down and found her friend, who she knew only as ‘Jamie,’ covered in blood and lifeless.
“I kneeled down beside her, put my hands by her ears and started to pray for her,” Julian added. “I knew that she was gone already.”
Police reported Wednesday that the driver of a black Lexus convertible allegedly involved in the collision has come forward and is being interviewed. The car has also been seized for examination.
“Thank God (the accused) finally came to his senses,” Julian said. “This is a young lady’s life that was taken so suddenly. I’m angry because (the suspect) left her to die alone.”
Julian has made a small shrine where her friend was killed and is reaching out to the victim’s family.
She hopes people from the Downtown Eastside community can say their goodbyes through a memorial service.
“I just feel very honoured and blessed that I was with her (that day),” she said. “I just want her family to know that she didn’t die alone and she had good people around her trying to take care of her.”
