The pressure is on for the Green party to elect its first MP.
Adriane Carr, the Green party’s deputy leader and candidate for Vancouver Centre, was busy talking to young voters in her riding yesterday to encourage them to vote and to vote Green.
“The response on the campaign trail is overwhelming. It’s so positive. I have never felt such strong support as I am feeling in this election,” said Carr.
Support from younger voters, Carr added, will be the key factor in her race against current Liberal MP Hedy Fry.
“I absolutely believe that I can win this time,” Carr said. “I believe it because of the voters that I’m meeting who are simply saying over and over, ‘Hedy’s been here a long time. It’s time for a change.’”
Carr said it is crucial that younger voters – those under the age of 40 and who make up 50 per cent of the riding – go out and vote.
“If they get out and vote, I’ll win by a landslide,” she said.
Investing in a low-carbon economy, creating sustainable jobs, and working on affordable rental housing and homelessness are just some of the issues she would like to champion if she wins, Carr added.
The Greens are also hopeful of their chances in Saanich-Gulf Islands, where Leader Elizabeth May is running.
