Perjury charges have been laid against four RCMP officers for their testimony during a public inquiry into the death of Polish immigrant Robert Dziekanski, who died at Vancouver’s airport in October 2007.
RCMP constables Kwesi Millington, Bill Bently, Gerry Rundel and Cpl. Benjamin Robinson were charged Wednesday and will make their first appearance in B.C. Supreme Court on June 29.
The officers were on duty at YVR when they came into contact with Dziekanski just minutes before his death.
During the confrontation, the officers fought with the distraught man and Tasered him repeatedly.
The incident was videotaped and public outcry over the death led to a pair of public
inquiries headed by retired judge Thomas Braidwood.
The perjury charges stem from their testimony in the second inquiry and were recommended last Friday by Special Prosecutor Richard Peck.
