Thousands of Olympic and Paralympic mementos – which until now have been without a home – will soon be on display in a new gallery dedicated to the 2010 Games.
The venue will be in the B.C. Hall Of Fame – inside B.C. Place – and will open on Nov. 3 after the arena reopens following its massive renovation.
Sue Griffin, president and CEO of the B.C. Sports Hall Of Fame, said the 6,000-square-foot gallery will house, among many other things, the Olympic clock, a podium, torches and, hopefully, a full set of medals.
“We commissioned research in 2008 … to identify the impact ,and the importance of a permanent tribute to the Games and the feedback was resoundingly that there was increased interest from local residents and tourists,” Griffin said.
“It’s our mandate to collect, preserve and display sport heritage, and this was one of the biggest sports moments in Canada.”
