Two people died early Monday morning in a single car crash on the Trans-Canada Highway just north of the Cassiar Tunnel.

Police were called to the crash site at around 1:30 a.m. The male driver, who was thrown from the vehicle, and his female passenger were dead when police arrived. Neither has been publicly identified.

Investigators believe the vehicle crashed through a concrete barrier on the above onramp and plunged down an embankment, coming to rest at the edge of the freeway. Speed is believed to have been a factor. It is unknown if alcohol was involved.
