Spanning five decades, from a teenage David Bowie obsessing over Little Richard, to his climb to fame with his alter-ego take on the space race, to Bowie’s lasting impact on culture today, the Art Gallery of Ontario’s latest exhibit David Bowie Is, looks at the gender-bending rock star’s influence on music, fashion, art and film.

The exhibit leaves the viewer with the message that through his outlandish exaggerations, Bowie gives us all permission to re-create ourselves as anything we want.

Metro attended the Friday night opening party and documented some party-goers in their Bowie-best.
