An overview of competing plans for Toronto transit from Mayor Rob Ford and TTC chair Karen Stintz.

Rob Ford’s plan
Eglinton-Scarborough Crosstown LRT running 25.2 kilometres along Eglinton from about Jane Street  to Kennedy Station in a tunnel, continuing on the separated guideway for the Scarborough RT between Kennedy Station and Scarborough Centre.

Sheppard East extension  from the current terminus at Don Mills to the Scarborough Centre. Sheppard West extends from Yonge Street to Downsview Station.

It would cost $8.4 billion for the Eglinton line ‘ paid for by the province. Sheppard subway estimated cost is $2.75 billion on the east and $1.48 billion on the west end.

Karen Stintz’s plan

Eglinton Crosstown LRT to run 20 kilometres between Jane and Kennedy Station with 28 stops and an underground portion between Black Creek and Laird Drive, where it resurface on a separate right-of-way.

Sheppard East LRT would run 13 kilometres on a separate right-of-way on the road between Don Mills and Conlins Road. Finch West LRT on a separate right-of-way 11 km between Keele Street and Humber College with 20 stops.

It would cost about $8.4 billion in provincial funds, with about $6 billion spent on the Eglinton line. Estimates for street-level LRTs on Sheppard and Finch were about $1 billion each in 2009.
