Morgan Modjeski/ Metro Saskatoon 30-year-old Justin Lenuik was the first person in Saskatoon to eat a burger from the City’s new Five Guys Burgers and Fries location on 8th Street. The new location opened on Wednesday morning and while it’s the first in the city, operators say it won’t be the last.

The burger business in Saskatoon just got another contender.

Burger lovers in Saskatoon were lined-up for a chance to sink their teeth into one of the city’s newest patties as Five Guys Burgers and Fries opened their first Saskatoon location on 8th Street, Wednesday morning.

Franchisee, Brett Hansen, who oversees the Five Guys in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Quebec, excluding Montreal, said it wouldn’t be the last.

“We have plans for three to four stores here in town,” said Hansen. “As space opens up and the right locations open up … It’s as soon as there’s the right opportunity and the right mix. We like good quality locations and we wait for those to be available.”

When asked why he brought the franchise to Saskatoon, he explained residents in the city have always been burger lovers and it was the next logical step.

“Saskatoon is just a great little town and we love it out here,” said Hansen. “We’ve been successful wherever we’ve been and this is the next step on the ladder.”

Hansen wasn’t the only one waiting for the Five Guys Saskatoon location to open up as 30-year-old Justin Lenuik, the store’s first customer, said he’s been waiting months for the restaurant to open.

“I was pretty excited, I’ve been waiting for a couple of months now,” said Lenuik. “I’ve been to (five guys) in Virginia a couple of times, but never in Canada, so I wanted to be the first.”

The Saskatoon location is the restaurant’s third location in the province, with two already established in Regina.
