Jeff Mackey/Metro RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Rob King addressed media outside of White CIty Elementary School after students had returned to class.

It was a tense Monday morning at White City Elementary School. Police and school officials were made aware of a bomb threat to the school and evacuated approximately 706 students as well as staff to a nearby community centre and skating rink.

“A child disclosed to a parent today the contents of an online chat from last night,” said Cpl. Rob King of the RCMP. “This resulted in some concerns about there possibly being an explosive device here in the school.”

The RCMP were contacted by the concerned parent at 8:15 a.m. At around the same time students at the school also informed staff of the threat

On scene during the evacuation were members of the Regina detachment of the RCMP, including Police Dog Services and an Explosive Disposal Unit as well as the local fire department.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. the school was cleared of any threat and students returned to class.
