Grade 7 student Kate Reeve was buzzing around like a bumblebee in the Glebe Community Centre yesterday watching six months of planning unfold on the catwalk.

Reeve got the idea to organize a charity fashion show after reading about the struggle of terminally ill children at Vancouver’s Canuck Place.

“I read about a terminally ill girl with lung cancer staying there and I thought I should do something to help them,” said Reeve, who is 12. “They told me about Roger’s House (a palliative-care centre for children) in Ottawa and I thought I should help both.”

The planning started last summer, and after several emails and phone calls, Reeve got local designers, models and sponsors on board. Her goal was to raise $5,000, and she plans to split the funds raised to give to both hospices.

She said the most difficult part of organizing the extravaganza was staying on top of all the little details.

“Call this person, email this person, you have to remember to do this and that,” she said.

Reeve still had fun watching the models on the catwalk and said she looks forward to organizing another fundraiser in the future.
