Metro News Quebec's Boucar Diouf and Newfoundland's Cathy Jones kick off Les Rendez-Vous de la Francophonie in Ottawa Monday night. The two will serve as the official spokespeople for the 15th edition of the festival.

Cathy Jones and Boucar Diouf joined organizers in Ottawa Monday evening for the national launch of the 15th edition of Les Rendez-vous de la Francophonie.

Newfoundland’s Jones, of 22 Minutes fame, and Diouf, a Quebec City-based comedian and writer, will serve as official spokespeople for this year’s festival.

Jones, described as a “Francophile Anglophone” by event organizers, said she received her first education in French through candy wrappers.

“French came to me through my chocolate bar, when on the back the translation was ‘put on a happy,’ and translation was ‘c’est chocolat.’ And I thought this is an interesting thing,” Jones told the crowd of about 50.

Les Rendez-vous de la Francophonie will take place from March 8 to March 24, with over 1,300 activities across the country. A complete list of events can be found at http://www.rvf.ca.
