Jim Watson biked to the announcement of his cycling plan, then pedalled off to lunch with his parents.

Mayoral candidate Jim Watson yesterday unveiled policies to encourage cycling in Ottawa.

“Cycling is good for the environment, good for your health and good for the economy, and unfortunately it hasn’t had much attention in this election campaign,” he said.

High on Watson’s list is expanding the city’s network of bike paths, and fixing gaps in their continuity.

“We have the makings of a good network, but a lot of it is not connected,” he said.

“In order for cyclists to feel comfortable and safe, you need to have paths that don’t just end in the middle of a street.”
