A man who was rescued from a burning building has a 25-year-old man to thank for saving his life.

Ottawa Fire Services said the young man pulled a 56-year-old man out of a two-storey duplex at 138 Carruthers Avenue that was on fire Sunday evening. The fire started in the kitchen, Ottawa Fire said, and was extinguished by 6 p.m.

When paramedics arrived, they treated a 56-year-old man for second degree burns to his arms and shoulders and first degree urns to his face.

The Ottawa Paramedics Service said he was sent to hospital in the burn centre in serious, but stable condition.

Damages to the house and its contents are estimated at $110,000.
