OK, so maybe your significant other doesn’t like your Movember ‘stache, or maybe you are feeling down in the mouth about prostate cancer. It’s a serious topic.

Get yourself over to the Beatrice-Desloges Secondary Amphitheatre, 1999 Provence Ave. at Innes Road, Orleans, this Saturday to see Rockin’ for the Boys, featuring former Canadian Idol judge Zack Werner. He’ll be joined by local musicians: Ron Laframboise on bass, Murray Soehn on keyboards and Ralph Buch on drums. Proceeds from the concert will benefit prostate-cancer research, but Werner says he won’t let that get in the way of a rocking good time.

“There’s obviously a serious element to it, but this is not a ‘We have lost a child and let’s have a tragic evening of raising funds,’” laughs Werner. “What it’s mostly about is playing music and celebrating boys being boys.”

Werner says last year he lost a good friend to prostate cancer, Canadian guitar legend Domenic Troiano, and he says he hopes the concert will raise awareness about the illness and the steps men can take to keep themselves healthy.

“As men in general we are the last people in the world who want to deal with our health issues,” says Werner. “This is something, if it’s found at an early-enough stage, it’s very preventable.”

Werner says the concert was the brainchild of Laframboise, whom he met while they were playing a gig in Sudbury.
