The second Vanier prostitution sweep in as many weeks saw the arrest of 16 johns, police said Friday.

The sweep on Wednesday and Thursday was part of an ongoing police project in Lower Town and Vanier targeting the sex trade. On Friday June 29, police announced eight johns had been arrested in the Vanier area as well.

Of the 16 johns arrested, 15 are being sent to a pre-charge diversion program, or “John School,” that teaches the men about the effects of prostitution in the community with the aim that they do not re-offend.

The remaining john was charged with communicating for the purpose of prostitution, mischief and solicitation. He also faces a charge under the Highway Traffic Act for driving without a license.
