As two temperature records in Ottawa melted in the heat that swept the city Wednesday and Thursday, Ottawans looked for anyway to cool off.
Thankfully, the city has a host of excellent gelato and ice cream parlors to sooth parched palates. Many of which have only set up shop within the past year. We’ve done a run down of our favourites. But take our poll below and tell us which one you like best.
Stella Luna’s decadent gelatos don’t skimp on flavour. The shop does artisan production in-house and each batch is no older than 24 hours. Some of the recipes even come from century-old traditions brought to Canada by owner Tammy Giuliani who studied alongside gelato masters in Italy. Fan favourites include Sicilian pistachio, Ferrero Roche and amerea sour cherry.
Setting up shop in the Glebe last year, the Marble Slab’s ice creams are made with all natural ingredients. Favourite’s include red velvet, which tastes like a mix of chocolate and cream cheese, and birthday cake, which tastes like a combination of cake icing and batter. Visitors can choose from a multitude of toppings including everything from Nerds candy to walnuts.
This ice cream shop, which started popping up in Ottawa Tim Horton’s locations last year, has some delicious concoctions to cool down even the hottest day. Big sellers include cake batter and cookie dough flavours, but be sure to try their cheesecake fantasy made of graham cracker pie crust, blueberries and strawberries.
