Students at Turnbull School give school custodian Joe Fatoric a group hug yesterday.

Students at Turnbull School have run in the Ottawa Race Weekend for the past 13 years, but this year the race is a little closer to heart.

The school will be raising money for the Ottawa Hospital Foundation and running on May 14 for their custodian, Joe Fatoric, who is undergoing colon cancer treatment.

Fatoric said he was overwhelmed yesterday when he was greeted by hundreds of students at the school as they kicked off their “Jog for Joe” campaign.

“I feel really good today,” he said, adding that he hopes to be able to cheer on the kids in May.
“They showed a lot of support for me so I’ve got to do something for them.”
