An Ottawa
man is facing charges of sexual assault, theft and other offences after
offering rides to women and then molesting his passengers, police say. In at
least one instance, police say, the man offered his victim a ride home
from the Byward Market in an "underground" or bandit taxi.

“In this case, they may have been
trying to solicit taxis when he pulls up,” said Staff Sergeant John McGetrick

Magabi Lashury Suleiman, 29, is
charged with two counts of sexual assault, three counts of forcible
confinement, four counts of theft, one count of theft of a credit card as well
as criminal harassment and intimidation.

He is also charged with breaching the
terms of a recognizance. When he was arrested, Suleiman was awaiting trial on
seven counts of trafficking crack cocaine and other related charges.

McGetrick said police are
publicizing the case because there could be more victims who have not come forward.
“The fact that this happened to four women, the potential exists that it could
have happened to more, though we have nothing to confirm that.”

Police are also reminding young men and women to
stay vigilant when they’re out with friends
