Benefits, the environment and a range of restaurants are among the reasons why Western University has a new accolade.
They university’s been named one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for 2014.
With more than 13,000 people on staff, Western receives more than 32,000 applications each year, showing there’s no shortage of applicants.
Now its popularity is reflected in its standing in the Canada’s Top 100 Employers competition, the largest editorial project of its kind in Canada.
Thousands of employers take part each year, and the reasons for winners are made clear. To give jobseekers information, the competition publishes the reasons its winners come out on top.
Western’s place on the list was due to a variety of reasons, including benefits. Staff can received educational assistance and their children can be offered scholarships.
The campus environment, its 29 on-campus eateries and restaurants, plus retail outlets and other attractions like a movie theatre, are also quoted, as well as cultural events, social events and involvement in the community.
Western president Amit Chakma said: “Our faculty and staff deserve the credit for this honour.
“One of the most attractive things about working at Western is the opportunity to work with the best, and be a part of teams that provide a high quality global education and conduct research that has impact around the world.”
The list also includes big names like Mars, General Motors and Pepsi, plus the universities of Toronto and New Brunswick.
