The London Rippers are scheduled to open their inaugural season in the Frontier Baseball League next year. The branding has attracted international attention along with calls for a change from a women's advocacy group and city officials.

A compromise has been tabled in the controversy over the city’s new baseball team.

Megan Walker, executive director of the London Abused Women’s Centre, and David Martin, owner of the London Rippers, met Friday to discuss the issue.

During the talk, Walker proposed nixing the team’s logo in favour of a  different image: Fungo the dog. The dog is part of the storyline Martin has built around the team.

Critics say the existing logo draws too much of a connection to notorious serial killer Jack the Ripper.

Martin was expected to consider the proposal over the weekend, Walker said.

Martin did not return a phone call from Metro Sunday.
