Three people have been arrested on firearms offences after a teen was found dead with a gunshot wound in this Proudfoot Lane apartment building at about 2 a.m., on Thursday. The building is south of Oxford Street West near Beaverbrook Avenue.

Three people have been charged after a 17-year-old girl was found shot dead early Thursday in an apartment at 560 Proudfoot Lane.

A 17-year-old youth has been charged with careless use of a firearm, among other weapons charges. His identity is protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Two London brothers, Patrick Buttenaar,18, and Zerihun Buttenaar, 20, were charged with accessory after the fact of criminal negligence causing death.

Police responded to the apartment about 2 a.m. after someone called 911 to report finding the woman’s body.

The victim, who cannot be named as it may identify a youth offender, was pronounced dead at the scene and had “trauma consistent with a shooting,” according to a statement from spokesman Const. Dennis Rivest.

Police were classifying the incident as a “suspicious death.” Officers remained at the scene ‘ an apartment building south of Oxford Street West near Beaverbrook Avenue ‘ Thursday afternoon.

Residents of the neighbourhood ‘ comprised of high-rise apartments, luxury condominiums and some retirement residences ‘ described it as quiet.
