Metro/Angela Mullins London deputy police chief Brent Shea, left, and Det. Sgt. Chris McCoy of the London police guns and drugs section look over cash, drugs, and weapons seized as part of a nine-month investigation. drug traffickers.

Police have seized more than 2,460 grams of drugs and arrested 37 people as part of a nine-month investigation targeting alleged mid- to high-level drug traffickers.

London police and officers from the local RCMP detachment announced the results Tuesday, hours after the last of 14 search warrants stemming from the investigation were served.

Officers started raiding targets in May, said Brent Shea, London’s deputy police chief. Tuesday’s raids started at 4:30 a.m. and focused on six addresses — half of which are in northeast London between Fanshawe Park and Sunningdale roads.

Cocaine was the investigation’s main focus, Shea said, and accounted for 1,730 grams of the drugs seized.

“This (will have a) significant impact on the trade of cocaine within our city,” he said, noting cocaine is the second most-prevalent drug in the city.

Marijuana is the most widespread, with 90 grams found as part of what officers dubbed Project O-Bunker. Police also seized hashish, cannabis, and 454 oxycodone pills.

Along with drugs, searches turned up $72,608 worth of cash, three handguns, a sawed-off shotgun, 53 rounds of ammunition, a .25-calibre bullet, a butterfly knife, and a bulletproof vest. Five vehicles were also seized.

Shea declined to release details Tuesday about how the drugs are coming into London or how or if the people facing a combined 129 Criminal Code and Controlled Substances Act charges are connected.

But, he said, the arrests will “interrupt” drug networks.

The people charged range in age from 17 to 50, and all but three are from London. Two of the suspects are from Brampton and one is from Brantford. The value of the drugs seized was $202,282.
