Nova Scotia College of Art and Design students have been collaborating with young local artists, and on Saturday they’ll show off their finished works.
On Community Arts Day, NSCAD students are celebrating the results of the months-long partnership by hosting four open houses at various locations in downtown Halifax.
Under the direction of professor Gene Daniels, 19 students in NSCAD’s Community Arts Interactive program collaborated with North End community groups on four children’s arts projects.
“This course was designed to introduce students to the world of community art service,” Daniels said in a release.
“At the heart of this social vision is a belief in the value of cultural and creative expression to affect deep and lasting social change.”
Two of the projects – Art to Go and Seed to Feed – will be on display at St. George’s YouthNet on Brunswick Street from 11 a.m to 1:30 p.m.
At 1:30 p.m., NSCAD’s Granville Mall Plaza Studio will be showing off the project Who Am I? That’s followed at 3 p.m. at NSCAD’s Bell Auditorium with the project My World … My Life.
“The response of these projects from both the children and our students has been absolutely and overwhelmingly positive,” he said.
