A small group of citizens congregated at Grand Parade in downtown Halifax on Monday to urge the municipality and the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 508 to get back to the negotiating table.

Joey Archibald of Halifax organized the rally, which attracted a handful of people over the lunch hour.

He said the intention was neither pro-union nor pro-management, but to encourage both sides to resume dialogue.

“One of the problems we’ve seen so far … is that they’re not talking,” Archibald said.

“What we hope is that we can set an example and say to both sides that (they) need to talk…. I’m not a negotiator, but I do know if you’re not talking, you’re not going to solve the issue.”

Talks between the union and management broke off early Thursday morning. As the transit strike grinds into its 13th day, it is not known when the two sides will return to the negotiating table.
