If you’re looking for love online this Valentine’s Day, police ask that you be safe in doing it.

The RCMP issued a release on Monday reminding people to think about their personal safety when using online dating services.

“As the popularity of online dating services increases, so does the potential of becoming a victim of an online dating predator,” spokeswoman Sgt. Brigdit Leger says in the release.

Police tips include ensuring you read the privacy policy on any dating site, remaining anonymous or using a nickname to guard your identity and never disclosing personal information, including last name, address, workplace or phone number.
