Premier Darrell Dexter said his government will not intervene in Halifax’s transit strike.

Dexter told reporters on Thursday the issue is between HRM and the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 508, which represents over 700 transit workers.

“I’m not going to wander into the labour situation in the city, I think that’s up to them,” said Dexter.

“I’d like to see them try and resolve it as quickly as possible. These things are very difficult, they’re difficult on the people who work there, they’re certainly difficult on … the people who are on the buses.”

Dexter said while he’s leaving it up to the two sides, he’d like to see an agreement on services like Access-a-Bus

“I think it would be incumbent on both the union and the management to address those services … Providing that service I don’t think in any way would impinge upon keeping the effectiveness of their dispute,” Dexter said.
