Students aren’t using the transit strike as an excuse to skip class, a Halifax Regional School Board spokesman says.

“Generally speaking, our school’s aren’t seeing much of a difference today,” said board spokesman Doug Hadley on Thursday.

He said at Citadel High School, Halifax West High School and J.L. Isley High School, it’s business as usual.

Those three schools issue bus passes to an estimated 1,000 students who live several kilometres away, he said.

“They haven’t seen a noticeable difference at all … but (some schools) did find a number of students were arriving late,” said Hadley, suggesting that traffic played a factor.
