For a millionaire, Rodney Henman is pretty modest.
Even when the 83-year-old knew he was holding a lottery ticket worth $1.8 million, he kept calm, insisting that he and his wife, Olive, go to the drugstore.
“She asked what was wrong. I said, ‘Nothing. I won the lottery,’” said Henman in a statement released on Thursday by the Atlantic Lottery Corp.
A trip to nearby Passage Pharmasave in Eastern Passage would seal the deal: He won the Jan. 28 Lotto 6-49 draw, matching all six numbers.
“I’ve been playing Lotto 6-49 since it started, but this is my first big win,” he said.
He said he hasn’t made any plans for the money, but did say he would like his children to have a “solid financial structure” and his grandchildren to receive a good education, the release said.
“I do think we’ll have a big splash on our 50th wedding anniversary in June,” said Henman. “The events of the weekend will certainly help.”
