David Boyd has dropped out of the race for mayor, throwing his support behind Mike Savage.
Boyd, a local taxi driver, garnered a little more than two per cent of the vote in the 2008 city election.
“Mike’s in, I’m out,” he said on Tuesday. “That’s the end of it for us this year. Maybe in four more years I’ll try again.”
“Savage has support from all three major parties, and we just don’t have the support…. The recent polls showed us in the two per cent range, and we just don’t feel we have a chance at winning.”
Boyd famously campaigned on turning HRM into a “Vegas of the East” in 2008, suggesting Halifax should have more strip clubs and casinos. He also made headlines in 2003 when he suggested marriage law should be amended to include human-android relationships.
