A third person has been charged in the murder of a Halifax man back in late May.

Simon Peter Dugas, who is originally from Sherwood Park in Edmonton but has been living in Halifax, was arrested without incident on Monday at Halifax Stanfield International Airport. He appeared in court on Tuesday charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder in the death of Corey Duane Lucas.

“I can’t get into specifics, but the investigation led us to attending the airport and arresting him,” said Halifax Regional Police spokesman Const. Brian Palmeter.

Palmeter said an arrest warrant had been issued for Dugas and they took the 27-year-old into custody at the airport at 6:30 a.m.

The 36-year-old Lucas was gunned down in an apartment at 2711 Clifton St. on May 25. Another 31-year old man was shot, but survived. Police believe the shooting was drug-related, but declined to give more specifics about the incident. Gang involvement is not suspected.

Last month, police arrested and charged Dylan Peter Roach, 20, of Halifax with first-degree murder as well as the attempted murder.

Jenna Karlene Piercy, a 27-year-old from Prospect, was also charged with accessory after the fact and possession for the purposes of trafficking.

Roach and Piercy have both been arraigned in court and are in jail.

Palmeter said investigators won’t rule out further charges  but added the two people they believe are responsible for Lucas’ death are now facing murder charges.

“Roach and now this guy (Dugas) were the two key players,” he said.

Dugas was arraigned Tuesday and has been remanded to the Central Nova Correctional Facility in Burnside. He is due back in court July 24.
