A five-year-old girl is dead following a snowmobile collision in Sherwood Park yesterday.
At approximately 5:15 p.m., Strathcona County RCMP and Strathcona County Emergency Services responded to a report of a snowmobile collision in the Brookville Estates subdivision located in east central Strathcona County.
Officials say a 36-year-old male had been operating a snowmobile through a wooded area within the rural sub-division property when he lost control and struck a tree. The man, along with his five-year-old daughter, who was a passenger, were thrown from the snowmobile into a stand of trees.
The girl succumbed to the injuries sustained as a result of the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her father was transported by ambulance to an Edmonton-area hospital with serious injuries.
Police say neither was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
