EDMONTON – The lights are bright and colourful under the dome of Alberta’s historic legislature.
The government is spending $40,000 on new accent lights to showcase the building each night in anticipation of its 100th birthday.
“They’re just building up a little excitement for the centennial,” said Roxanne Nanuan, a spokeswoman with Alberta Infrastructure.
She said the LED lights rotate from magenta to blue and green on the lower dome every 10 seconds. Lights on the face of the dome are blue.
“They spent two nights trying to figure out different colour combinations and they basically chose what they thought looked best,” Nanuan said.
The lights were first turned on two weeks ago.
She said they will be taken down following a Sept. 2 birthday party that is to include a concert and fireworks.
The standard yellow and white lights will then continue to operate.
